Active temperate glacial landsystem evolution in association with outwash head/depositional overdeepenings

چکیده
The response of temperate glaciers to rapid climate warming is reflected in the geomorphology (landsystem) resulting from snout recession. This paper develops a locally diverse process-form model active through mapping and quantification historical landscape change on Fjallsjökull-Hrútárjökull foreland, SE Iceland. Quantification volumetric areal changes foreland are based time series archival aerial images for period 1945–1998, high-resolution satellite imagery 2014 digital elevation models differences derived UAV years 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 2022. Landscape glacier behaviour since 1945 highlights importance azonal potentially intrazonal signatures glacial landsystems, particularly: (1) development collapse partially supraglacial outwash fans produce heads fronting depositional overdeepenings; (2) emergence ice-cored eskers that record evolution englacial drainage networks operating over overdeepenings. Such landform assemblages manifested as substantial ice-cored/hummocky terrains, characteristic deglaciating forelands likely be widely replicated wherever ice-contact glacifluvial create act Due its significantly greater debris cover, complete de-icing Hrútárjökull post-1945 was delayed until around 2014. constitutes prime example incremental stagnation, which rapidly has resulted significant (land surface 0.8 m a−1) last 8 years.

متن کاملThree-Dimensional Geologic Model of Glacial Outwash in Mclean County, Illinois, Based on Seismic Refraction Studies
Seven two-dimensional (2-D) seismic refraction lines were used to determine the thickness and geometry of a valley train outwash deposit of the Quaternary Henry Formation near Heyworth in southern McLean County, Illinois. These refraction data were collected and processed in 2-D, then imported into a Petrel, a three-dimensional (3-D) geological modeling software package. The 3-D geologic model ...

Thriving in the Cold: Glacial Expansion and Post-Glacial Contraction of a Temperate Terrestrial Salamander (Plethodon serratus)
The dynamic geologic history of the southeastern United States has played a major role in shaping the geographic distributions of amphibians in the region. In the phylogeographic literature, the predominant pattern of distribution shifts through time of temperate species is one of contraction during glacial maxima and persistence in refugia. However, the diverse biology and ecology of amphibian...
